Operational software belongs where the work happens

A surprising amount of business software still assumes the user is at a desk. Many of the most important moments in a company are not. A lead is captured on a showroom floor. A follow-up is promised in a parking lot. A test drive starts at the curb.

When the system of record is a desktop, people invent a parallel system: notes, paper, memory, a message to themselves. Accuracy drops. Managers lose the picture. The software becomes a reporting layer after the fact instead of a tool during the work.

Mobile-first does not mean shrinking a desktop screen. It means designing around interruption, location, and speed — capturing the right data at the right moment, then giving managers a coherent view of what actually happened.
